Conference report: Global Eco Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference, Sydney, Australia, 7-10 November 2011

The Global Eco Asia Pacific Tourism Conference Seize the Potential was held from 7 to 10 November 2011 in Sydney, Australia. Two hundred and twenty delegates from over 12 countries participated in the conference which was held in two venues commencing with the first day at the Australian National Maritime Museum, then travelling across the harbour to Taronga Zoo for the following three days.The Conference was opened by the New South Wales (NSW) Minister for Environment, The Hon Robyn Parker, who introduced destination NSW, a plan to grow tourist visitation to National Parks over the next decade. She also outlined a number of initiatives undertaken by the National Parks in the area of tourism development. Sally Barnes, the Head of the National Parks and Wildlife Service, then addressed the many partnerships undertaken by the parks with the tourism industry in the areas of attraction, activity and accommodation development. The rest of Day One was split into two forums, one on Asian Tourism the other on Indigenous Tourism.
