(07A101) Preface: Proceedings of the 56th Annual Conference on Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, Scottsdale, Arizona, USA, October-November 2011

摘要

The year 2011 marked the 56th Conference on Magnetism and Magnetic Materials (MMM). The first MMM Conference took place in 1955, and the conference has grown tremendously in size and scope in the intervening decades as the field of magnetism has expanded. The 56th was the largest MMM Conference to date, with nearly 1500 registrants (40% of them students) and 1734 scheduled oral and poster presentations derived from 2444 submitted abstracts. The 56th MMM Conference was held in the Marriott Desert Ridge Resort in Scottsdale, AZ, USA—a beautiful desert setting—and started on Sunday night, 30 October 2011, with an outdoor welcome reception. Four days of technical sessions followed, including eight parallel oral sessions and eight parallel poster sessions each morning and afternoon, and a number of special events.
