This timely and well-organized volume provides a systematic and rigorous treatment of a subject fraught with potential challenges for the economist. First, since about 40 percent of the surface of earth is devoted to agriculture, spanning roughly the latitudes from 65 degrees North (the Northwest Territories of Canada or the Urals of Siberia) to 50 degrees South (Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope), the subject is huge. Second, because the measurement and forecasting of climate change is both complex and controversial, studies such as this must proceed with caution and circumspection.
