Investigations of the growth of surcose single crystals (P2_1) were conducted in pure solutions with 10/100 supersaturation at 22 and 50 deg C in the presence of fructose and glucose. In the first 2-3 h, dissolution was observed at the positive end of the polar b-axis of the crystals; in the negative direction, however, the growth rate was initially higher than during the latter growth phase. These effects can be influenced by a DC electric field and by adding the above-mentioned monsaccharides. Potential caluclations supported that adsorption as well as the adsorption of foreign moleculaes occurred on various crystal faces.
