Inside the Soviet Alternate Universe: The Cold War's End and the Soviet Union's Fall Reappraised

This book aims to analyse the reasons for the end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Soviet Union by focusing on the 'Soviet side of the equation'. Its central argument is that the reforms of Mikhail Gorbachev aimed at modernising the Kremlin's Stalinist mindset have had a destabilising impact leading to the collapse of the Soviet Union. The study combines the approaches and methods of political science with those of history and even anthropology, and this could make it of interest not only for historians but also political scientists, policy-makers and diplomats.
