The paper is focused on a design approach to a T-stub component, which is key part in an analyticalumerical prediction of behaviour of the bolted end plate connections, by the Component Based Finite Element Method (CBFEM). The method combines the analytical Component Method and the numerical Finite Element Method (FEM). The distribution of internal forces is solved by the FEM. The connectors' behaviour is modelled by analytical models implemented into FEM as components. The method is developed for design of generally loaded complex joints with end plated where the distribution of internal forces is not clear. The resistance of the joint is controlled by limiting the plastic strain of plates and the strength of connectors, e.g. welds, bolts, and anchor bolts. The prediction of the initial stiffness and the deformation capacity is included natively. The T-stub in tension is investigated in this paper. CBFEM is verified on the research oriented model, which is validated against the authors' own experiments and the results from literature, and on the Component Method. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd.
