VOC Testing Comparison: EPA Method 24 Versus the Cal Poly Method

Presently, the experimental determination of the volatile organic compound (VOC) content of water-based paints is of major concern to the coatings industry. The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), in California, have caused the concern since their regulatory efforts require paint manufacturers to continue lowering the levels of these substances. The existing methods for carrying out the VOC determination may no longer be adequate to carry out the determination with sufficient precision on the newer coatings systems that are being developed.
