In his new book, Joseph Fewsmith addresses a vital research question: How successfully have political reforms promoting government accountability and a clearer division of state and society been institutionalized in China? He uses an institutional approach to investigate this question, although he does not hesitate to note the importance of factors falling outside of institutional theory.
