While the personnel of the reinforced № 1 (F) Squadron sailed from Halifax on the troopship and former Canadian Pacific liner Duchess of Atholl on 8 June 1940, their aircraft do not seem to have travelled with them. The Donaldson Line freighter SS Dakotian sailed from Halifax on 5 June with a cargo consisting of "8 Hurricanes, one case spare planes, total 26 cases." While no documentation has yet turned up, the assumption is that a roughly similar cargo was dispatched on another ship at approximately the same time or else had been accommodated as cargo on the Duchess of Atholl.
