The imminence of war brought No 1 (F) Sqn back to life. while canada did not formally go to war until 10 september 1939, it started to place its armed forces on a war footing two weeks earlier. As far as the squadron was concerned, it was informed on 30 august that the unit was to move immediately to St hubert, Quebec. The ground staff at Calgary commenced loading railway boxcars that same day and, on the next day, S/L Fullerton and Sergeant Briese, the only pilots currently with the squadron, departed in Hurricanes 316 and 311 for their new station. Despite bad weather they reached their new base on 3 September. These two aircraft were joined by Hurricanes 315 and 324 (which had hurriedly been taken out of storage at Dartmouth) a few days later.
