摘要

The present work involves rigorous experimentation to determine various burning characteristics of solid materials viz., wood, PMMA, PVC cables. The investigated burning characteristics are burning rate/heat release rate, temperatures at different heights above the fuel surface, flame height, flame velocity, and incident heat flux at different locations. An experimental setup has been established to obtain data related to burning characteristics of wood, PMMA, and PVC cables, useful for designing fire safety measures. CFD simulation of the experiments was also done using fire specific CFD software. The software used was Fire Dynamic Simulator (FDS) prepared by National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST). The results obtained from the CFD simulation are found to be in good agreement with the experimental data.
