This special issue contains fully revised papers, which were selected from the papers presented at the 21st International Workshop on Active-Matrix Flatpanel Displays and Devices -TFT Technologies and FPD Materials- (AM-FPD' 14) held at Ryukoku University Avanti Kyoto Hall, Kyoto, Japan from July 2 to 4, 2014. This marked as the 21st meeting in the AM-FPD workshop series, which was sponsored by the Japan Society of Applied Physics (JSAP), technically sponsored by IEEE Electron Devices Society (IEEE) and Electrochemocal Society (ECS) -Electronics and Photonics Division- and ECS Japan Section, and co-supported by the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE), the Institute of Image Information and Television Engineers (ITE), the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan (IEEJ), the Chemical Society of Japan (CSJ), the Japanese Liquid Crystal Society (JLCS) and Thin Film Materials and Devices Meeting (TFMD).
