VERANDAH IN FRIEDRICH SILABAN’S RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS

Silaban’s verandah design characteristics are the roof, widernoverhangs, materials, connection with interior-exterior, andrnsitting elements. Some differences in two houses (the numberrnand size of verandah and roof materials) show the changementrnof verandah in his design. As conclusion, the variation imply hisrndesign process to realize his notion of verandah that rooted fromrnIndonesian vernacular house. The result of this paper will be arnpreliminary research for a completed analysis of verandah in hisrnother projects to clarify transition, evolution and creation ofrnverandah in Silaban’s residential projects designs. Futhermore,rnthe research will clarify the design method used by Silaban inrndeveloping verandah as a modern tropical space.
