BAE Systems wins UK Type 31 gun systems contract

BAE Systems' Bofors business in Sweden will provide its 57 mm and 40 mm gun systems to equip the UK Royal Navy's (RN's) new Type 31 general-purpose frigates. In a 1 October announcement, the company said it had been awarded a contract by Type 31 prime contractor Babcock to manufacture and deliver both the Bofors 57 Mk 3 medium-calibre and Bofors 40 Mk 4 small-calibre gun systems. The value of the sale was not disclosed.
