摘要

The Singapore Strait is one of the world's busiest waterways, with the presence of at least 1,000 vessels at any one point in time and the passage of around 2,000 vessels daily, including container ships, product tankers, and passenger vessels. The 100 km-long, 16 km-wide waterway connects the Malacca Strait and the South China Sea and is part of the shortest shipping route between the Indian and Pacific oceans. Given the sheer volume of vessels passing through each day, the Singapore Strait is also one of the world's favourite hunting grounds for maritime criminals and pirates.
