Sea Guardian: Singapore aims to boost maritime security with MARSEC USVs

The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) plans to field a new type of unmanned surface vehicle (USV) to boost its presence in the Singapore Strait, a waterway that serves around one third of the world's seaborne container trade and a quarter of th global oil trade. In late February the RSN said it expects to initially field four new 30-tonne USVs - designated Maritime Security Unmanned Surface Vessels (MARSEC USVs) - following further systems integration and testing of the USVs' autonomous navigation capabilities, alongside concept development work to refine operating procedures and tactics. These activities are expected to conclude by the end of the year.
