PARTICIPATION OF STUDENTS OF MARITIME ENGINEERING IN THE NAVAL EXERCISE “MARSEC 2015” WITH WEBSITE OF THE SPANISH NAVY

Students of Maritime, Marine and Nautical Engineering of the School of Nautical Studies of Cantabria University and students of Nautical, Marine and Radio Electronic Engineering students of Cádiz University, have participated in an online maritime security exercise with the Spanish Navy the last week of May this year. Each student has worked as a Company Security Officer. Spanish Navy designed for the students a specific area affected by terrorist and piracy activities against shipping. Students, acting as CSO, used the ENCOMAR website to send the maritime security online forms as required by the NCAGS system. For greater interaction, Spanish Navy has provided students with an specific tool called MAPA and also with a chat for communicating. Spanish Navy defined the vulnerabilities of each vessel according to its nature; with this, students have learned what corrections should be made in the design or transformationrnof vessels to meet the appropriate maritime security level.
