UK MoD takes a fresh look at Royal Navy's maritime surface combatants

The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has begun to look afresh at its strategy to sustain the Royal Navy's (RN's) maritime surface combatant capability under a new 'Pathfinder' initiative involving the participation of both industry and MoD stakeholders. Officials said that the year-long Sustained Surface Combatant Capability (S2C2) study is intended to produce a road map for the delivery of an affordable and sustainable Joint Maritime Surface Combatant Capability, and inform work to procure a projected new class of Future Surface Combatant (FSC) to succeed the RN's Type 22 and Type 23 frigates.
