Alenia Aeronautica Wins Italian Mpa Contract

Alenia Aeronautica has secured a contract to provide the Italian Ministry of Defence (MoD) with four ATR 72 MP maritime patrol aircraft (MPAs) with a long-range surveillance suite.rnThe first fully-equipped aircraft will be delivered by the Finmeccani-ca subsidiary in June 2012, followed by three further units at a rate of one every six months.rnThe aircraft, which is under development, is based on the new ATR 72/600 platform with glass cockpit and uprated engines. It features a maritime long-range surveillance version of Selex Galileo's ATOS mission suite, managing a variety ofrnsensors, communications and electronic support measures (ESM)/self-defence systems.rnThe package includes Selex Galileo's Sea Spray 7300E AESA radar and EOST-23 electro-optical turret; Elettronica ESM with a self-protection C-27J-based subsystem; and a communication suite provided by Selex Communications including sat-com (SICRAL)-capable radio and Link 11/16 datalinks.
