The US Navy has unveiled a new autonomous mine-hunting system meant to operate as part of the Littoral Combat Ship's (LCS') mine countermeasures (MCM) mission package. A mock-up of the so-called Knifefish system, which is scheduled to see an engineering and manufacturing development model tested in Fiscal Year 2015, was introduced on 16 April at the Navy League conference by Captain Duane Ashton, a programme manager with the navy's unmanned maritime systems office.
