Three offshore patrol vessels (OPVs), which have been maintained by BAE Systems since a contract with the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago fell apart, have been bought by the Brazilian Navy, Announcing the GBP133 million (USD206 million) deal on 2 January, BAE Systems' Maritime business said the contract covered the three ships, ancillary support services and a manufacturing licence to enable follow-on vessels to be constructed in Brazil. The first two ships, which had both completed sea trials and acceptance tests, will be delivered in June and December 2012 respectively following reactivation. The third, which has yet to complete setting-to-work and final sea trials, will follow in April 2013.
