Poland launches amphibious personnel carrier

Poland's AMZ Kutno plant has unveiled the first details of its Hipopotam 8×8 heavy amphibi ous wheeled armoured personnel carrier (Ciezki Plywajacy Kolowy Transporter Opancerzony). The Hipopotam is being devel oped under a grant awarded in June 2010 by Poland's Ministry of Science and Higher Education to a consortium led by AMZ, supported by the WITI military institute of en gineering technology, WAT military academy of technology, WITPiS military institute of armour and automotive technology and the Gdansk Institute of Technology. The vehicle's subsystems and general design have already been frozen and production of a pre-prototype demonstrator is set to begin shortly, with field tests expected to start in late 2011.
