Russia's GRU acquires thermal monoculars

Russia's military intelligence organisation, the GRU, is acquiring hand-held thermal imagers, in the form of the new PT2 thermal monocular from the Novosibirsk Instrument Making Plant. According to Rostec, Russia's overarching industrial holding company, the GRU is getting 300 PT2 units in two batches. The second batch was ordered on 24 July 2013 and comprises 158 PT2 units, at a contract price of RUB91 million (USD2.7 million) and unit cost of RUB576,000 (USD 17, 538), a Rostec statement said. Exactly when the initial 142 units were ordered is not made clear.
