Rafael has developed a new launcher for its Spike missile systems. The twin launcher is designed for lightweight platforms, enabling them to be equipped with the missile without the need for the larger quad launcher. At the 2013 Paris Air Show, the new launcher was shown equipped with Spike extended range (ER) missiles and fitted to AgustaWestland's AW159 'Wildcat' and Eurocopter's EC645 helicopters. Speaking to IHS Jane's, a Rafael spokesperson said that the launcher can accommodate the Spike ER and Spike Non Line-Of-Sight missiles, both of which are primarily anti-tank weapons. Rafael has previously developed a quad launcher that can be fitted with two different variants of Spike missile, enabling a more flexible weapons fit and mission profile.
