The missile launching apparatus includes number of launch canisters (4) each having a tube with an opening for receiving a missile (2). Each canister is provided with a piston (14) and a piston arrester (18). The piston arrester performs the arresting of the piston in the tube of each canister after launching of the missile. A rocket motor/gas generator (16) is embedded or attached to the piston. An independent claim is also included for a missile launching method.
