New momentum has been injected into long-delayed efforts to recapitalise the electronic warfare (EW) equipment inventory operated by NATO's Joint Electronic Warfare Core Staff (JEWCS). NATO has set out plans to invite bids for a new JEWCS Capability Package (CP) in mid-2015, with the intention of contracting for a broad suite of new equipment in late 2016. Based at Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton in southwest England, JEWCS is a multinational training organisation responsible for providing a realistic electronic environment for NATO units under training. The unit operates a variety of radar and communications jamming, simulation, and surveillance equipment, which it deploys around Europe to provide EW training for alliance nations.
