No Iskanders deployed in Kaliningrad, says Putin

Russia has not deployed Iskander (SS-26 'Stone') tactical ballistic missiles in its Kaliningrad enclave, or taken a decision to do so, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at a news conference in Moscow on 19 December 2013. "It was my predecessor [Dmitry Medvedev] who first said that one of the possible responses [to the setting up of missile-defence sites in Poland and Romania] would be to deploy Iskander missile systems in the Kaliningrad region. This is nothing new," said Putin, "but let me draw your attention to the fact that we have not actually taken such a decision yet. I hope that will calm everyone down."
