TKMS reveals vertical tube for Type 214 SSK

German shipbuilding house Thys-senKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) has revealed a concept for inserting a vertical payload tube into the design of the Type 214 diesel-electric submarine (SSK). In what appears to be a new development, Peter Hauschildt, head of product management for TKMS, told a briefing at UDT 2016 in early June that, within a number of weapons configuration options being evolved for the Type 214, the company has been developing designs for placing a vertical multipurpose launch tube in the middle of the submarine.
