In the wake of Egypt's uprising in January and February, the question of what role the Muslim Brotherhood played and will continue to play in Egypt's transition is vitally important. The organisation can celebrate the toppling of a military dictatorship that effectively suppressed it and imprisoned many of its members since 1952. However, it now faces the challenge of how to change from an illegal opposition movement that has been accused of advocating empty Islamist slogans, to a more accepted and legitimate actor in the political process with concrete political programmes.
