The first of 12 Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC)-EmbraerA-29 Super Tucano light-attack turboprops for Nigeria made its maiden flight at the SNC Florida production facility on 17 April. With the successful first flight completed, the aircraft will now be fitted with its mission systems by SNC in Colorado ahead of final trials and the commencement of deliveries to the Nigerian Air Force in 2021. The milestone comes about 30 months after the US Department of Defense contracted SNC to deliver the 12 aircraft to Nigeria for use in the fight against the Boko Haram militant group. With weapons, the total value of the deal was estimated to be approximately USD600 million.
