Nigerian Super Tucano base upgrade contract awarded to Relyant Global

A new airfield will be built at Nigeria's Kainji Air Base under a USD19.6 million contract announced by the US Department of Defense (DoD) on 7 May. The DoD said the Tennessee-based Relyant Global was awarded the contract to construct the airfield, as well as security fencing and other facilities, with an expected completion date of 1 August 2023. Kainji Air Base will be the home of the Nigerian Air Force's (NAF's) 12 new A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft, the first of which are expected to arrive from the United States on 21 July, according to Musa Istifanus, the permanent secretary of the Nigerian Ministry of Defence.
