Rheinmetall offers new mortar for infantry, special forces

Rheinmetall announced on 13 August that it has developed the new RSG60 60 mm mortar for infantry and special forces. Rheinmetall Waffe Munition began development of the mortar in October 2017. The company said the mortar is designed to be lightweight, quick to operate, and ergonomic and can be converted manually without tools within 30 seconds from a 15.8 kg standard infantry version into a commando mortar weighing 6.8 kg by removing the carbon fibre composite baseplate. The maximum range of the infantry version is 3,200 m, depending on ammunition and charges, while the commando mortar has a range of up to 2,000 m, according to Rheinmetall. The range can be extended by 500 m if the mortar is equipped with a 30 cm barrel.
