India's federal government has recently granted 'emergency powers' to its three services to acquire assorted defence equipment from a single vendor to augment their operational preparedness along the country's border with Pakistan. Official sources told Jane's that the approval, which was granted in early April to lessen extended delays in military purchases, now enables the procurement of weapon systems, ammunition, and related ordnance from a single source without prior consent from the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
