A memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by the US Department of Defense (DoD) and its Qatari counterpart during a strategic dialogue on 13 January did not approve Doha's offer to expand the Al-Udeid Air Base for the US military, according to the statements released by US departments after the event. "We signed a new MOU on the expansion of our presence at Al-Udeid," US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said after the meeting in Doha. "This base is key to American security and our shared efforts to promote regional stability. We thank Qatar for its dedication to improving and modernising it."
