The six-party talks on the denuclearisation of North Korea resumed in Beijing on 8 December after a five-month hiatus. Representatives of North and South Korea, China, Japan, Russia and the United States last met in July soon after Pyongyang made a partial declaration of its nuclear activities. However, the information provided by North Korea on its plu-tonium programme has yet to be verified and the fresh round of talks will concentrate on the procedure for allowing inspectors to gain access to the North's nuclear reactors and thus establish the true extent of its plutonium production.
