The Latvian Navy received the fourth of five minehunters, Visvaldis(M 07), from the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) on 24 October, the Latvian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced. Originally built as HrMs Delfyzl in 1983, the 595-ton vessel was handed over to its new owner in the Dutch city of Den Helder. Under an agreement signed by the two countries in August 2005, the Baltic state is acquiring five Alkmaar-class minehunters, each worth LVL8 million (USD14.5 million). The vessels are 51.6 m in length, have a maximum speed of 15 kt and a range of 3,000 n miles at 12 kt.
