摘要

NATO's top political leader has travelled to Greece and Turkey in the hope of persuading the two allies to allow NATO and the EU to formally co-operate in Afghanistan to protect European police trainers working in the country. Athens for years has obstructed Turkey's request to join the EU because of its differences with Ankara over the divided island of Cyprus, while Ankara in turn has prevented NATO from establishing links to the EU, which requires the unanimous approval of all 28 allies.
