Security implications for South Sudan three months before a critical referendum are becoming pronounced, with the threat of violence from one of the region's largest ethnic groups and the possibility of more than USD2 million worth of weapons flooding in to arm a local militia.rnMembers of the powerful Missiriya ethnic group began demonstrations in the central town of Muglad on 29 September. The group vowed to take up arms should its members be prevented from voting in the January poll, which is likely to lead to the creation of the world's newest nation when South Sudan votes to secede from Khartoum.
