Turkey signs with ADIK for new LSTs

Tuzla-based shipbuilder ADIK (Anadolu Deniz Insaat Kizaklari) has been contracted by the Turkish Ministry of Defence's Under-secretariat for Defence Industries (Savunma Sanayii Mustesarligi - SSM) to design and build two 138 m Landing Ship Tank (LST) vessels for the Turkish Naval Forces. Contracts were signed on 11 May at the IDEF 2011 show. The first of the 7,125-ton ships is due for delivery 44 months after the August contract effective date, with the second to follow eight months later. ADIK was downselected by SSM in March 2010 as preferred supplier for the LST programme, beating a rival bid from RMK Marine. The scope of supply comprises the build of eight aluminium Landing Craft Vehicle and Personnel (LCVPs) and the integration of a command, weapon and sensor fit, drawing on systems previously developed for the new MILGEM corvettes.
