Germany pitches Patriot missile system to Poland

Germany has formally proposed the delivery of 12 batteries of its Patriot Advanced Capability 2 (PAC-2) systems and missiles to Poland. The offer was announced by German Defence Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg and his Polish counterpart, Bogdan Klich, following discussions in Warsaw on 15 February. Zu Guttenberg described Poland as "our preferred partner in this case" and confirmed that discussions would centre on 12 batteries. Klich said that no further details would be released at this point, as air-defence experts were scheduled to meet to discuss the finer points of the proposal.
