摘要

Hussein did not elaborate on the defence industrial agreement between Malaysia and China, and a spokesman from the Malaysian Ministry of Defence did not respond to IHS Jane's questions on the matter. However, it is likely that such collaboration will be based on Malaysian procurement of Chinese materiel, possibly missiles. Malaysia has previously purchased FN-6 shoulder-launched low-altitude surface-to-air missiles from China and is understood by IHS Jane's to retain interest in procuring other Chinese-designed missile systems that it wants to produce locally. In this sense, it is notable that Malaysian neighbours Thailand and Indonesia have secured similar 'buy and make' deals with China, both featuring missile systems. Thailand produces an indigenous version of the Chinese WS-1 302 mm multiple rocket launcher while Indonesia is license-manufactures C-802 anti-ship missiles.
