Czech CHoD elected chair of NATO Military Committee

Czech Chief of the General Staff General Petr Pavel has been elected as the next chairman of the NATO Military Committee, it was announced on 20 September. Gen Pavel will replace former Danish Chief of Defence Staff General Knud Bartels, who has served as NATO's most senior military figure since January 2012. Gen Pavel is due to take up his new post on 26 June 2015. The election of Gen Pavel was made at a meeting of the NATO Military Committee on 20 Sep- tember in Vilnius, Lithuania.
