The Indian Navy (IN) completed Installation test firing (ITF) of a BrahMos anti-ship cruise missile from first-of-class Project 15A destroyer Kolkata (D 63) on 9 June. The test-firing, which took place off the west coast town of Karwar in Karnataka, met all mission objectives by demonstrating the missile's capability and proving the installation of its fire-control system (FCS) and Universal Vertical Launcher Module (UVLM), After completing trials, Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) will hand over the 6,800-tonne Kolkata to the IN in the next two to three months for commissioning later in 2014. Once in service, the MDL-built Kolkata will be able to launch 16 BrahMos missiles in salvo.
