The US 'National Military Strategy' has been updated for the first time since 2011. Calling for a more agile and integrated force, it was unveiled on 1 July by chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey. "Since the last National Military Strategy was published four years ago, global disorder has trended upward while some of our comparative advantages have begun to erode," Gen Dempsey, who oversaw the strategy's formulation, told reporters at the Pentagon. Among other things, the document noted that 'assured access' amid anti-access/area denial (A2/ AD) challenges will require "deploying secure, interoperable systems between services, allies, inter-agency, and commercial partners".
