Bangladesh outlines plans to further develop naval shipbuilding

Bangladesh's prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, has outlined plans to further develop naval shipbuilding capability within the country. At an event on 19 March in Chittagong marking the commissioning of three vessels for the Bangladesh Navy (BN), Hasina said the Dockyard and Engineering Works (DEW) at Narayanganj is developing a facility to support the BN's operation of Chinese submarines, which are scheduled to be delivered later this year. The DEW is owned and managed by the BN.
