US Army requests more funding to re-float aerostat

The US Army has asked Congress to shift USD27.2 million to continue testing a troubled aerostat surveillance system near the National Capital Region. On 28 October 2015, in the middle of a three-year demonstration of Raytheon's Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor System (JLENS), one of two 74 m aerostats became untethered from its station in Maryland, floated away, and eventually crashed in the Pennsylvania countryside.
