Flughafen Wien hopes to leave Skylink problems behind

Vienna is one of the few airports in mainland Europe to be publicly listed, because 50% of shares in operator Flughafen Wien are traded on the Vienna Stock Exchange. The remaining shareholders are the provincial government of Lower Austria (20%); the Vienna municipal authority (20%); and the employees of the airport (10%). Flughafen Wien is the largest employer in the east of Austria. In 2011-12, an average of 20,000 employees in 230 companies worked to ensure punctuality, convenience and safety. A further 52,500 jobs are indirectly connected with Vienna Airport. The airport operations alone generate tax revenue throughout Austria of just under EUR1 billion (USD 1.3 billion) per year.
