In "Improving Air Safety: Long-Term Challenges" (Issues, Winter 2000-01), Clinton V. Oster, Jr., John S: Strong, and C. Kurt Zorn have written a stimulating and sophisticated paper about aviation safety, in which they argue that the primary threats to future air travelers might differ from the menaces of the past. I would amend the statement slightly and say that certain long-term dangers that have been quiet in recent years might be poised for a resurgence.
