There was a welcome boost for Irish railfreight on July 13 with the opening of a new 1.6km rail connection to Dublin Port. The new spur gives rail access to shipside at the Ocean Pier, eliminating the need for transhipment at Alexandra Road. The first customer is Irish logistics company IWT, which plans to increase its services from the current 4-5 trains per week.
