Abuia LRT faces massive cost overrun

CHINA Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) says it needs an additional Naira 358 billion ($US 2 billion) to complete the light rail project in the Nigerian capital Abuja. CCECC has just two years to finish the project, although the paucity of funding means it is increasingly unlikely the company will be able to meet the agreed deadline. "Since February last year no budget has been allocated to the project," explains CCECC project manager Mr Chang Weijin. "The Federal Capital Territory Administration owes us about $US 145 million."
